Matters Resolved
While each property--and every lawsuit--is unique,
and no particular results can be guaranteed, some representative
matters handled include: *
- Obtained
a judgment for a fifty percent (50%) value reduction
on a Galleria office building. The client’s tax savings
for the years in issue were over several hundred thousand
dollars. The Court established the property’s value at
precisely the amount sought by the firm’s client, and awarded
the firm judgment against the Harris County Appraisal District
for all of the owner’s attorney fees in the lawsuit.
- Successfully
defended a lawsuit brought by the Harris County Appraisal District,
in which the District sought to radically increase the taxable
value of a large portfolio of apartment properties. The District
dismissed the lawsuit after the firm’s discovery demonstrated
that the District had not met the jurisdictional prerequisites
necessary to support its lawsuit.
- Obtained
a judgment, at trial, for a one-third value
reduction on a Houston office building, with an attorney's fees
award.
- Negotiated
a settlement establishing the value of Harris County land at
less than two-thirds of the value set by the Harris County Appraisal
District, based on environmental regulations affecting the property.
- After
a tax agent was improperly refused a hearing before an appraisal
review board, filed an Application for Mandamus through the
Texas Court of Appeals; and obtained a hearing before the appraisal
review board, which in turn resulted in the value sought by
the owner.
